Our supportive, caring trainers provide mentoring and coaching, and with access to wrap-around supports through our Community Services programs, we can help you overcome barriers to your study so you can achieve your goals.

As a provider of ECEC services ourselves, our trainers have current sector knowledge to help you understand the role and realities of working in early childhood education and care.

Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Start your early childhood education and care career with our Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121).

This qualification is also fantastic for people who work with children and want to improve their skills. You will learn industry best practice in educating and caring for children to help you make the most of your career and tailor your educational programs.

With this qualification, you can become an educator in an early childhood service, working with children as they undertake their journey from infancy to childhood. This is the first step into a range of potential careers.

Our training includes face-to-face group training, online content delivery, mentoring sessions, workplace training and practical placements. We aim to be flexible in your learning and adjust to help you more quickly and easily meet your course competencies.

This qualification comprises of 17 units of competency (15 core units plus two elective units). To complete the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you must show competence in all 18 units, plus a compulsory work placement of a minimum of 160 hours in a regulated education and care service.

(E) Elective

*HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting is delivered by a third-party registered training organisation. YWCA Canberra will organise a date for you to undertake this training as part of your enrolment.

To complete first aid you must:

  • complete pre-course work at least three (3) days before the practical class
  • attend the practical class and complete all required assessments during the class.

We provide intakes for the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care throughout the year, depending on interest.

Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

Take the next step in your ECEC career and open up your career options with a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121).

This course teaches you to be aware of the developmental needs of children and introduces you to your roles and responsibilities in an ECEC setting. You will have opportunities to apply theories of child development in the workplace, and gain experience in interacting with children, families and your fellow workers through your practical placement.

With a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, you can plan, implement and manage programs in early childhood services, in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements.

You could become a centre director, an accredited trainer, work for a regulator, or even become a consultant working with services to improve their rating and assessment outcomes. Learn more about the range of potential careers in early childhood education and care.
